TRAVELED TO ATLANTA TRIUMPH, DUCATI, MV TO PURCHASE THE PEARL WHITE DUCATI S4RS WITH THE RED STRIPE WITH CHECK IN HAND AND MY SALESPERSON INSISTED I DRIVE THE BRUTE BEOFRE SIGNING PAPERWORK ON THE DUC. I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAD ONE LEFT IN STOCK AND IT WAS BLACK AND GRAY, BUT HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL, SO OUT OF PROFESSIONAL COURTESY, DROVE THE MV. UPON STARTING THE ENGINE, I IMMEDIATELY FELT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SOMETHING WILDER, SOMETHING THAT BEGGED ME TO DRIVE IT, SO I TOOK OFF AROUND THE 3 MILE LOOP. AFTER GETTING OUT OF VIEW OF THE DEALERSHIP, I TWISTED THE THROTTLE BACK AND WAITED FOR THE REDLINE INDICATOR LIGHT, BUT IT JUST KEPT PULLING AND PULLING AND PULLING. BY THE TIME THE REDLINE INDICATOR CAME ON, I WAS DYING TO FEEL 2ND GEAR. THE DUC SEEMED TO REDLINE SO FAST AND WHILE IT SEEMED TO RAISE THE FRONT WHEEL MORE OFTEN, IT JUST DIDN'T PROVIDE THE EXHILLARATION AND FEEL OF POWER THAT THE BRUTE DID. I HAD ARRIVED AT 8;30 ON A SATURDAY MORNING, SO I COULD LEAVE BACK HOME BY 10 OR SO. I MUST HAVE DRIVEN BOTH BIKES OVER AND OVER 4 OR MORE TIMES. MY DILEMA WAS THAT I LOVED THE PAINT SCHEME OF THE S4S AND I HAD JUST SOLD MY DUCATI 1098 AND WAS SORT OF HIGH ON THE WHOLE DUCATI IMAGE THING, BUT THE AGRESSIVE SILOHETTE AND PERFORMANCE OF THE BRUTE ENTHRALLED ME. I JOKINGLY INSULTED MY SALESPERSON FOR TURNING MY WORLD UPSIDE DOWN, BUT I FINALLY LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AROUND 3 THAT AFTERNOON AND INSTEAD OF SHIPPING MY NEW BIKE BACK TO NASHVILLE LIKE I HAD PLANNED, I LEFT MY BMW 5 SERIES AT THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE THE BRUTE BACK TO NASHVILLE. MY SALESMAN WAS NICE ENOUGH TO BRING MY CAR BACK TO ME THE NEXT WEEK FOR A MODEST $200. I THEN TOOK PICS OF THE BRUTE AND GRAPHICALLY TRACED IT ON MY PC. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT THE CHEAPER "S" MODEL HAD A RED FRAME AND MY MORE EXPENSIVE "R" MODEL HAD THE BORING BLACK FRAME, SO MY FIRST GOAL WAS TO PAINT THE FRAME RED. THEN I DISCOVERED A PICTURE OF THE BRUTALE CHALLANGE BIKE AND THE WHEELS IN MY HEAD STARTED TURNING. I DECIDED TO NOT ONLY EMULATE THE LOOK OF THE S4RS COLOR SCHEME, BUT TO ALSO CHANGE THE BIKE TO LOOK EVEN MORE NASTY WITH THE AFTERMARKET CHALLENGE BODY PIECES. WELL 2 MONTHS LATER AND APPROX. $12,000 MORE OUT OF MY POCKET, I HAD CREATED MY DREAM BIKE AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY REGRETS SINCE. |
